Old Glory Dispatches from 6 October 2024
Happy Sunday, kids!
Old Glory Dispatches is where we give you updates on the studio, the development of our projects, and where we write about stuff we think you’d like.
This is our first newsletter, so forgive us if there are a few wrinkles to iron out.
In this dispatch:
You’re reading the newsletter of Old Glory Studios, an indie game studio where combat veterans make combat games. If this was forwarded to you, hit the link and
“Dare mighty things.”

Origin Story
Matt Patak and I met while working together at a AAA game studio in Malmö, Sweden. It was a little surprising to meet another Army veteran while working in Scandinavia, but it turns out there actually are some folks who like hiring military veterans. And not all of them are even American.
The thing about working with Matt is that he’s got a ton of ideas. He moved back to the States before I did, and after I came back last year, he shared a few more ideas with me. There’s one in particular that he’s been spending the past few years thinking about: a team-base PvP game that mixes RTS elements into a first-person shooter.
If you know me at all, you know that if somebody tells me about their idea or something they wished they could do, I always ask, “What’s stopping you?”
I learned a couple things from my stint producing documentaries, and it turns out that knowledge could remove what was stopping Matt. I was already missing the midcore games from a few years ago, those military shooters that try to feel authentic but are still easy to pick up, so I was ready to help make this game a reality.
It took a couple months, mostly to figure out our studio’s name 😉 , but in December 2023, we founded Old Glory Studios, an independent video game studio dedicated to making games that kick ass and blow your mind.
Status Report
First-Playable Prototype
Old Glory Studios hit our first big milestone at the beginning of September when we completed the first-playable prototype (the FPP) for Project Cadiz, our team-based PvP game.
For those not in game development, the FPP is like the first draft of the game. There usually isn’t much art or story. You make the gameplay first to see if it’s fun.
We’ve spent the last few weeks playtesting with a lot of help from our friends (thank you, friends!) and yes, the game is FUN.
That’s just the first pass on the artillery. And the environmental destruction.

Void Pilot’s Legacy
Our friends at Sea Stories Creative Studios, a veteran-owned games company, have recently launched the Kickstarter campaign for Void Pilot’s Legacy, a single-player, space-battling card game.
The mix of cards with RPG combat is pretty appealing, as is the look. They hit their goal in 3 hours and 10 minutes which means they’re already headed for their stretch goals. (Those include transparent, blue meeples, man!)
Check out their campaign here.
Thanks for taking the time to read our inaugural newsletter. We’re a new studio with a lot to say, and we really appreciate you being here. See you in a couple weeks!
