Tournament Recap
Greetings from the trenches!
At Old Glory Studios we’re cooking up combat games with the raw, unfiltered intensity of a bar fight in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Last Saturday, four teams entered our Outflank Invitational Pre-Alpha Tournament and brought chaos down on the “Chapel Hill” map of Victory’s Grave: Outflank.
Put on your k-pot as we take a look at the highlights.

The Outflank Invitational
Victory’s Grave: Outflank is a team-based PvP shooter set in a ravaged, 1980s Eastern European landscape, where survival demands cunning and coordination. With a host of unique features, players build defenses, navigate dynamic weather and day-night cycles, and engage in asymmetrical, round-based battles on destructible maps.
Saturday’s tournament brought four teams into the crucible of our “Chapel Hill” battle map: WWP Squad, representing the Wounded Warrior Project; ThePlanks; Jumpship; and Infamous, veterans of the Arma circuit. Over five intense matches, these players tested the limits of our pre-alpha build, delivering moments of brilliance and raw competition.
Play of the day:
Despite a late rally from Jumpship, Infamous emerged as the undefeated champions, securing a 4-1 victory over Jumpship in a Grand Finale.
Watch the replay:
Congratulations to Infamous on a masterful performance. A big hand goes out to WWP Squad, ThePlanks, Jumpship, and Infamous for bringing their skill and spirit to the tournament.
Thank you to everyone who played and to everyone who watched the stream. We want to give a special thanks to our shoutcaster Ling, and to Rory from PanthaTalks and Greg from the GZ Chop Shop Gaming Podcast for giving match analysis.

Vertical Slice
The tournament was a celebration of Outflank’s potential, but it was also a test. In game development, a vertical slice is a polished, playable segment that encapsulates a game’s core identity, its mechanics, aesthetics, and fun. (And yeah, the game is lot of fun.)
For Victory’s Grave: Outflank, our vertical slice is the “Chapel Hill” map, a dynamic arena where players dig trenches, exploit terrain, and outmaneuver opponents. The tournament also featured our spectator cam, still in its early form, which framed every tactical maneuver and desperate stand with clarity, proving that Outflank is as compelling to watch as it is to play.
View from the spectator cam:
The Invitational served as the vertical slice’s proving ground, yielding critical data and insights that will guide the game’s development. Over the next few weeks, we’ll continue testing Outflank’s vertical slice, testing a few incremental changes, and making decisions on what features to work on next and how to refine the full game.
This milestone owes much to our freelancers and co-developers, without whom we would not have achieved this. Their craft, paired with the enthusiasm of our players, has set a strong foundation for the game and for Old Glory Studios. We can’t thank all of you enough.
And playtesters, stay on the lookout for a new battle map!
